Diego Maradona wore Argentina's #10 at the 1994 World Cup in the USA — his final tournament, aged 33. His performance in Argentina's first two group games was extraordinary: he scored against Greece and delivered a performance of such energy and brilliance that commentators questioned whether we had been wrong to write him off. Then came the positive drug test for ephedrine after the Greece match, and Maradona was sent home. Argentina went out in the last 16.
The 1994 shirt is the most bittersweet of Maradona's World Cup collection — glimpses of genius, then sudden silence. He had been the greatest player in the world in 1986, led Argentina to a second final in 1990 playing with an injured ankle, and returned in 1994 for one last act. This home shirt from his farewell tournament is one of the most emotionally complex collector's pieces in football history.
