The 1954 Santurce Crabbers are widely regarded as the greatest winter league team ever assembled. Roberto Clemente, just 20 years old, shared the outfield with Willie Mays — who was playing winter ball while the New York Giants prepared for their 1954 season. Clemente batted .344 and outshone virtually every other player on a squad that included some of the finest talent in professional baseball. The Crabbers won the Caribbean Series that winter.

Clemente wore #21 throughout his career — a number retired across all of MLB on the anniversary of his passing each September 18th. His arm, his passion and his community work made him the most beloved figure in Puerto Rican baseball history.
