Bill Walton wore #33 at Helix High School in La Mesa, California — the same school that later produced Reggie Bush — before becoming one of the most dominant college players in NCAA history at UCLA under John Wooden. At Helix, Walton was already 6'11" and demonstrating the passing, footwork and defensive ability that would make him a two-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer.
At UCLA, Walton led the Bruins to two national championships (1972 and 1973) and is considered one of the greatest college players ever, going 86-4 across his three seasons. He won the 1977 NBA title with Portland and the 1986 title with Boston. He was also one of basketball's great personalities — outspoken, politically active and profoundly philosophical. This Helix High #33 throwback is from before any of that, the very beginning of a legendary journey.
